  24.      If you are converting from a previous version of GT POWER, it would be
  25.      an excellent idea to backup your hard drive(s) before beginning.  Care
  26.      has been taken and considerable testing has been  done,  but  mistakes
  27.      are  always possible when upgrading software from one release level to
  28.      the next.

  30.   -» This file is specifically aimed at users of older versions of GT POWER.
  31.   -» If you are currently using 16.00 then not all the contents of this file
  32.      are  pertinent.  However, users of 16.00 must still convert their phone
  33.      directories to the 17.xx style.  Use the GT_UTIL program to perform the
  34.      necessary conversion.

  36.      To migrate from GT POWER 14.xx  to  18.00,  you  must  run  the  SYSOP
  37.      program.  Select  the  (I)mport  option to convert GTMAIL and GTMESSAG
  38.      files to the new format.  There will be 1 central user file,  which is
  39.      called  USER.CTL,  which has an index file associated with it,  called
  40.      USER.IDX.  In each message area the MESSAGE.CTL file will replace  the
  41.      GTMESSAG.CTL  file,  and  there  will  be  created  a USER_MSG.CTL and
  42.      associated USER_MSG.IDX.  The USER_MSG files will  record  information
  43.      concerning which messages have been read by a user in each area.  Also
  44.      these  files  will  enable  the new UNjoin command to function.  It is
  45.      possible that the USER.IDX file might become damaged, if so, the SYSOP
  46.      program provides a  clean-up user file  option.  This  command will go
  47.      thru and build a fresh USER.IDX file from the USER.CTL file.

  49.      After  running the SYSOP program to import your GT control files,  the
  50.      WEEKDAY.COM program must be run to  install  the  day-of-week  in  the
  51.      message bases.  Once done, it will be kept up-to-date automatically.

  53.      Also,  you  must convert your phone directory from the old format with
  54.      the GT_UTIL.COM program,  which is provided.  The phone directory  has
  55.      some added fields and expanded others.

  57.      Also,  when converting from 14.xx to 18.00, the  new external protocol
  58.      interface requires that the Kermit batch files be redone.  Please read
  59.      examine the KR??.BAT files included for an example.

  61.      Please note the new files provided:

  63.          GT.WIN ......... Must be present and unchanged for GT to run.
  64.  
  65.          SYSOP.BBS ...... Replaces old SYSOP.BBS, this file may be
  66.                           customized by the user.

  68.          DELREN.EXE ..... Delete and/or renumber message bases.
  69.                           Execute without parameter for instructions.

  71.      GT POWER 16.00  introduced a new format for the message bases, the MSGCVT
  72.      program is provided to convert from the old style to the new style. After
  73.      the conversion process,  check the message areas  for the old .MSG files,
  74.      they may be deleted.

  76.      For LAN users, the old PID_FILE.BBS must be deleted.  A new file will
  77.      automatically be created.  The format of this file has changed and the
  78.      old file cannot be used.
